SORRY FOR THIS INCONVENIENCE.
An annual plant with a specific aroma. Height 30-40cm. It blooms from July to August.
The sweet, aromatic seeds are used as a spice in the alcohol industry and as an addition to cakes. Tea or an infusion of seeds soothes coughs and heals stomach ailments.
Sow anise in warm, fertile, well drained soil after danger of frost in spring, or start in containers indoors. Seedlings quickly develop a taproot, so must be transplanted when young. Consider fall sowing and spring harvesting where summers are extremely hot or humid. Plants grown for foliage do not need as long or warm a growing season as those grown for seed. The seeds and leaves of this versatile herb add piquancy to salads, soups, baked goods, and other foods. Anise oil is used to flavor beverages and to scent perfumes.
