A very ornamental plant. The flowers are often used in dried-flower arrangements because they retain their colour well.
This variety is a hardy annual. It bear charming and prolific flowers in bright blue and are especially welcome in the garden as that color is rare in nature. Each disc-shaped flower is about 3-4 cm across, with ragged petals radiating out from the center.
They make ideal plants for growing in simulated wild gardens.
The petals of cornflowers are the part used in herbal folklore. Cornflowers are considered to have tonic, stimulant and emmenagogue properties. An infusion of the flower petals was used as an eyewash and as an astringent mouthwash.
