The Shirley field poppy (Papaver rhoeas) is a very easy-to-grow annual plant, characterized by an erect habit, grey-green, pinnate, hairy leaves and single flowers, set on long, rough hairy stalks.
Variety Shirley creates flowers in pastel colors from white, through pink to red. The flowers are often two-colored and bloom extremely luxuriantly in summer, attracting numerous pollinating insects.
The plants reach a height of only 30 cm.
Field poppy is an excellent plant for naturalistic and rustic gardens. It fits beautifully on flowerbeds with cornflowers, cosmos, hollyhocks and sage. Poppy flowers are not very durable, but poppy flowers are great for dry compositions. Syrups can be prepared from red poppy petals, which are an addition to alcoholic beverages.
Poppies require sunny positions and slightly heavier, not very moist, permeable and calcium-rich soils.

GERMINATION INSTRUCTIONS
Sow very small poppy seeds from March to May (after danger of last frost) for summer blooms directly in to the ground.
1. Select an area to plant the poppies that has full sun to partial shade.
2. Loosen the soil by digging the area with a garden fork. Poppies grow best in neutral soil. Heavy clay soil does not work well.
3. Sprinkle poppy seeds over the loose soil. The seeds are small, so they will find their way down into the crevices of the soil. Do not cover the seeds.
Best temperature for germination - +15-+20C.
germination time - 10-20 days.
