The most magnificent of all pampas grasses. From the center of a large clump of oblong leaves, in autumn, silvery-pink pinnate inflorescences grow up to 50 cm long. After drying, the panicles retain their decorative value for a long time. Perfect as a solitaire on lawns, near water reservoirs.
In winter, move the plants to a cool, bright room, if grown in the pots.
This drought-tolerant grass prefers full sun, well-drained soil, and occasional watering during extended dry spells. Remove brown dead leaves with a rake: the often recommended practice of shearing the clump to the ground can damage or kill the plant. Mass this plant as a screen or windbreak, or use it as a specimen or border plant. Place it where its rough, sharp leaf edges do not pose a risk to passersby.
