The red spruce (Picea rubens) belongs to the pine (Pinaceae) family. It is found naturally in North America.
Tree is durable, can grow up to 35 m and more. Pretty regular conical crown, branches arranged horizontally. The bark is thin, peeling. Needles short, prickly, glossy, light or dark green. They stay on the tree for many years.
Spruce grows cylindrical, brown-red cones. It has a shallow, disk-shaped root system.
It is recommended to plant red spruce in partially or completely shady places. Likes fertile, loamy, moderately moist soils with a neutral or weakly acidic reaction. It is a frost-resistant species.
The tree is suitable for growing both individually and in groups. Due to its size, it is recommended to grow in large gardens and parks. It is a good species for planting wetlands.
Sometimes the tree is used as a Christmas tree.
