Excellent small flowering shrub with long-lasting green foliage. Grow as a specimen or in groups near the home, in the lawn or shrub border or near the patio. Also may be an effective background for spring flowering perennials.
Deciduous, flowering tree up to 8 m tall or multi-stemmed shrub up to 3 m tall which is a native of China. Features lustrous, compound green leaves with 9-17 leaflets which persist late into the fall and five petaled, 3 cm diameter, star-shaped, white flowers with yellow or red centers which appear in terminal racemes in May. Flowers are followed by ~8 cm green fruits which superficially resemble buckeyes. Commonly called yellowhorn.
Easily grown in average, medium, well-drained soil in full sun. Prefers loamy soil. Very adaptable plant with tolerance for a wide range of growing conditions, including partial shade, damp soils or some drought.

GERMINATION INSTRUCTIONS
1. Soak seed in hot water for 24-48 hours. Sow the seeds that swell and sink immediately. Others (still floating) should be mechanically clipped (!!! Gently nick the seed coat near the pore slowly shaving it away until you see the barest glimmer of white. Be very careful not to cut the embryo.!!!) to expose endosperm inside, soaked till it sinks and sowed immediately.
2. Sow in moist peat/sand/ perlite mix, germination will usually occur in 1-2 weeks in higher temperature.
If no germination, put the pot in the ziplock bag and move to a fridge at +2-+4C. Check periodicaly - the soil should be always moist, not wet. Germination can start during this stratification.
